The religious preachers in North Kashmir Palhalan area Friday appealed youth not to target police during their operations against social evils. The appeal came after a police party came under heavy stone-pelting attack after it raided the house of a charas smuggler in Ghat Palhalan area of the Pattan town.Eyewitnesses told CNS that a police party raided the house of a 50 year old person Ghulam Mohiuddin Dar in Ghat Palhalan and seized all but 4 kilograms of charas and other material and equipments that this smuggler used for the manufacturing of charas.Witnesses added that as the police party after arresting the smuggler was on its way to police station Pattan, some miscreants attacked it with stones, resulting in the serious injury of a constable. “We had been receiving repeated complaints from the general public about this charas smuggler and even people had informed us that this man is nuisance than an asset for society. Unfortunately some miscreants attacked us after we arrested him. We had no option but to use tear smoke shells,” a police official told CNS adding that drive against social evils in the town will continue and action will be taken against those who shield drug pedlars and smugglers. “We have registered an FIR vide number 1/2016 against the charas smuggler and booked him under NDPS Act.Meanwhile, the attack on police party was condemned by religious preachers in the town who while addressing Friday congregations appealed youth to appreciate and encourage police actions against the social evils.
