Gulzar Singh Ranike, Animal Husbandry Minister Punjab today directed all the concerned departments to generate their resources to make National livestock championship-2016 a grand success. Reviewing preparations in a high level meeting, the Minister said that this championship is being organized annually since last seven years in which the livestock farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh Gujarat etc. would participate. He said that awards to the tune of 1.25 Crore would be conferred upon to the winners. Once started from district level now it has become not only National fame but international delegates are also participating in it and it is now known as “Pushkar of Punjab”.

Divulging further details he said that different competitions of horses, cattle, buffaloes, goats, dogs, camel, turkey and poultry would be conducted in 8th National Livestock Championship. He said that breeding competitions would be also held on 8th January. In the milking competition Murrah and Nili Ravi buffaloes, HF cross, Jersey, Sahiwal and other indigenous cows and goats would participate from January 10 to 12. Breed competition of horses, cattle, buffaloes, sheep, goats, dogs, turkey and poultry. Equestrian sports i.e. Polo, Flat race, Rabia race, Tent Pegging ferrier competitions would also be held at Chrhewan stadium from 9 to 12 January 2016. Dancer and decoration competitions of camel and horses would also be organized. On January 12,  2016   Chief Minister, Mr. Parkash Singh Badal would honor the winners with prizes and certificates.He said that National Livestock Championship is being organized to uplift the financial status of the farmers of Punjab by promoting piggery, Dairy, Goatry amongst the farmers. He said that this Livestock Expo would be organized from 8-12 January, 2016 at Sri Mukatsar Sahib with the help of department of rural development and Panchayats Punjab and federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industries.       

Mandeep Singh Sandhu Additional Chief Secretary-cum- Financial Commissioner Animal Husbandry apprised the Minister that all the necessary arrangements for the Progressive Punjab Livestock Expo-2016 would be completed on time. He further said that this would be the 8th  National Livestock Championship in a row organized by the Punjab Government. He said that in this championship be held from January 8 to 12, 2016 at Sri Mukatsar Sahib, Many renowned companies and institutions would put up exhibitions and information stalls. He said that apart from the exhibitions, Seminars would also be conducted all along the championship. He said that scholars and subject experts would deliver lectures in these seminars. Fun & frolic and other cultural events would also be arranged for the entertainment of visiting livestock farmers and general public.Prominent among who were present in the meeting included Chief Parliamentary Secretary Des Raj Dhugga, Deputy Commissioner of Sri Mukatsar Sahib and Bathinda Dr. Basant Garg,  Dr. H.S. Sandha, Director Animal Husbandry,Dr. Inderjit Singh, Director Dairy Development and all  deputy directors of the departments.
