In order to promote adventure sports including rock climbing and mountaineering; a Sports Climbing Championship is going on at Artificial Rock Climbing wall at TRC Nowgam under the aegis of the Department of Tourism Kashmir. The event was inaugurated on Wednesday and will culminate on December 18.Players from various districts of Kashmir valley including Anantnag, Pulwama, Budgam and Srinagar are participating in the championship.On the second day of the event Deputy Director Tourism Kashmir, Mr. Ghulam Jeelani, Deputy Director Central, Peerzada Zahoor Ahmad besides parents of the participants and large gathering of sports lovers witnessed the events.Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Director Tourism Kashmir, Peerzada Zahoor Ahmad said that such events shall also be organized in future. He added that such events help unfold hidden talent of the youth and provide them an opportunity to try adventure sports. He said the government is also considering to hold training courses on rock climbing for youth on Saturdays and Sundays and in this regard educational institutions will also be taken into confidence.Meanwhile final matches of the championship will be held on Friday after which prizes and certificates shall be distributed among participants.
