Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh today directed the officers to ensure that necessary measures should be taken for the smooth conduct of Muharram.The Deputy Chief Minister was addressing a review meeting convened to discuss the Muharram arrangements.Dr. Singh directed the officers to synergize their efforts to ensure smooth conduct of the Muharram especially during procession days so that people don’t face any inconvenience. He said that the government has already passed necessary directions in this regard to the officers of the various departments and they should ensure strict adherence to these.The Deputy Chief Minister also directed the Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation to ensure that street light in the Shia areas are fully functional and new ones are installed where there are non-functional. He also asked ensuring that the sanitation and cleanliness derives are undertaken on priority especially in the areas where the main processions of Muharram are being taken out.

Dr Singh also directed the officers of Health Department to set up medical camps in the areas through where the main processions pass so that necessary medicare facilities are provided to the devotees. “It is the endeavour of the government to ensure that the devotees get every type of facility during the main procession days”, he maintained.Responding to the demands of the representatives, Deputy Chief Minister directed the officers of Transport Department to ensure that adequate number of SRTC buses should ply in the Shia areas especially the morning and late hours during the month and the procession days.

Dr. Singh also asked the Director CA&PD to provide adequate supply of food grains and other related items to the consumers so that they do not face any inconvenience. He also directed the officers of PDD and PHE departments to provide adequate supply of electric power and water to the areas where the main functions of the Muharram are held.The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Dr. Farooq Ahmed Lone, Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Mr. Showkat Ahmad Zargar, Director, CA&PD, Kashmir, Mr. A. R. War and other senior officers of different departments like Health, PDD, PHE, Forest etc besides, prominent persons like Ms Neelam Gash, Aga Syed Mohsin, Asif Masoodi, Dr Ali, Hakeem Masood and other representatives of the Shia Community.
