Minister for Public Works, Syed Altaf Bukhari Tuesday highlighted the importance of sports in mental and physical development of human beings.The Minister was speaking at the concluding function of Caddies Golf Tournament here this afternoon.Underscoring the importance of sports, the Minister said that Golf attract players from national and international level and provides them a platform to showcase their talent which would also promote the tourism of the State in a big way. He said all measures are being taken to upgrade and modernize various golf courses to provide a platform to the budding golfers in the state to exhibit their talent.

Appreciating Jammu and Kashmir Police for sustaining and nurturing the golfing talent in the Valley, Mr. Bukhari said the force is playing an important role in promoting  various  sports in the state. He also lauded the role of Police Housing Corporation, organizers of the event, in building modern infrastructure for the organization.Earlier, Director General of Police, Mr. K. Rajendra Kumar, also appreciated the organisers for conducting the tournament to encourage the caddies, who play an important role in promoting golf in the valley. He said that the opportunity would help them to enhance their talent. Promoting sports in the State as a part of activity has helped the game to survive despite challenges, the DGP said. He disclosed that the Organisation would conduct the event annually to hone golf skills among the caddies.       

Earlier, on the occasion, Managing Director, Police Housing Corporation, Mr. Dilbag Singh briefed the Minister and other dignitaries about the aim of organising such tournament. He said that sports play an important role in creating discipline and spirit to work together, besides the talent among golfers to excel in other fields.The event was followed by award ceremony in which the chief guest accompanied by Minister of State for Power, Mr. M A Mir distributed trophies and prizes among Farooq Pandow, Sajjad Ahmad Ragga, Mushtaq Ahmad, Gh. Mohammad Pandow and Mohammad Din, who emerged as winners of the tournament.The inaugural and closing ceremonies were attended by MLA Duroo, Mr. Farooq Ahmad Andrabi, DGP (Prisons), SK Mishra, ADsGP, SP Vaid and   SM Sahai, Secretary Tourism, Mr. Farooq Ahmad Shah, IsGP, AK Choudhary, AG Mir, SK Sharma, Jagjit Kumar and MA Ganai, DIG Alok Kumar and other dignitaries.
