The International Film Festival Shimla (IFFS)-2015 was organized here today at the Gaeity Theatre organized by the department of Language & Culture in association with Himalyan VelocityV. S. Kundu, Former Director General of FDI inaugurated the festival in which nineteen films of various directors across the nation were screened to showcase the world’s best cinema and develop taste for good cinema among the youth and also to provide platform to the filmmakers.Speaking on the occasion, Shri Kundu appreciated the contribution of cinema in uplift of the society. He said today cinema had emerged as an important medium to highlight the social issues particularly pertaining to the poor and downtrodden sections of the society.

He said cinema was an accomplished form for delivering the message to the audience in an artistic and effective manner. He stressed the festival should also be organized in the remote areas of Himachal Pradesh.Director Information and Public Relations, Dr. M. P. Sood  said the festival was an endeavour to appreciate independent cinema and to catalyze vibrant documentary and short films.Director Language & Culture Shri Arun Kumar Sharma, Director All India Radio Shimla Shri Devinder Singh Johal, renowned author Shri S. R. Harnot, film directors and cinema lovers in large numbers were also present at the occasion.
