British Energy Minister calls on Dr. Jitendra Singh

The United Kingdom's Secretary of State (Cabinet Minister) for Energy and Climate Change, Ms. Amber Rudd called on the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh, here today and discussed wide range of issues of mutual interest between the two countries including civil nuclear energy cooperation, climate negotiations at Paris Meet and Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi’s forthcoming visit to the United Kingdom later this year.Dr. Jitendra Singh told the visiting Minister that India’s nuclear energy programme is primarily meant for peaceful purposes and has achieved rapid strides in recent times, particularly because Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi himself takes a personal interest and promotes all the scientific initiatives including those undertaken by the Department of Atomic Energy. 

He also informed her that India has just concluded year-long Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the establishment of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) at Mumbai by the internationally renowned scientist Dr. Homi J. Bhabha. Expressing satisfaction over the fact that India and UK share collaboration in the field of atomic energy at different levels, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, the mutual cooperation in this field is bound to grow further in the years to come, more so because the two countries have very much in common in different spheres of life.Ms. Amber Rudd, who is on a two-day visit to India, shared her country’s view and observations about the climate change negotiations proposed to be held among the representatives of the different countries and also expressed her views on the action which could be taken by India and the UK on this issue. She also dwelt on overall strategy of the British government in relation to energy including renewable energy and solar energy as well as climate change policy. The UK Energy Minister told Dr. Jitendra Singh how the entire British nation was looking forward to Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi’s visit with great enthusiasm.
