IKG Punjab Technical University would focus more on improving the employability of technical graduates of the State and it would be achieved by recruitment of well qualified academicians as faculty members strictly as per UGC guidelines and also with the better coordination of University with its affiliated colleges.The action plan to improve the quality of technical education in the State was discussed in detail in the 58th meeting of Board of Governors chaired by Mr. Sarvesh Kaushal, Chief Secretary Punjab. During the meeting, a detailed presentation was given by Mr. Rakesh Verma, Vice Chancellor, IKG PTU regarding various activities being undertaken by the University.

The Chairman BoG stressed that the most important factor for success of IKG PTU is the recruitment of top notch academicians and other human resources in the University. The Chairman directed the Vice Chancellor, IKG PTU and Director Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration to finalize the Human Resource Audit and review report in next 2 weeks so that the human resources of IKG PTU could be reorganized and restructured in an efficient manner to manage and improve the  technical education in the State. This audit report would not only recommend the optimal utilization of the current manpower of the University but would also recommend the future manpower requirement to run the University efficiently. 

The Chairman also directed that the contractual posts of academicians and faculty members which were in deviation to rules like age, qualification, experience and fair & transparent recruitment process shall be cancelled and IKG PTU would initiate the recruitment process for filling up of such posts on regular basis in next 7 days. The Chairman was further apprised that to standardize the rules and regulations of both the State Technical Universities, a committee has been notified. The Chairman directed the committee to submit its report to Board of Governors in its next meeting. VC, IKG PTU elaborated the various initiatives under taken by the University in last 6-9 months to improve the transparency and overall working of the University. Initiatives include the uploading of the Board agendas, proceedings on IKG PTU website, setting up of Grievances portal, restructuring of PITs etc. The chairman directed the registrar, IKG PTU to ensure the popularity of the portal among the current students and daily disposal of various grievances being received on the portal. During the meeting, the launch of Distance education was discussed in detail. The BoG unanimously decided that the final approach to be taken by the University for Distance Education should be vetted by UGC.

BoG decided that to bring fresh qualified faculty members on board IKG PTU, all the contractual posts which do not meet the prescribed criteria like age, qualification, experience, transparent recruitment process would be cancelled with immediate effect and fresh regular recruitment would be initiated against such posts. The Chairman directed all the University officials that the fresh recruitment, promotions and other related activities shall be strictly governed by UGC guidelines and no deviation from UGC norms shall be accepted.The other agenda points which were discussed in detail during the meeting included management of Court Cases of the University, finalization of media policy, establishment of center of excellence etc. 

In the end, the chairman summarized that to develop IKG PTU as a world Class University, its teaching and non-teaching capacity needs to be built by hiring top notch academicians and administrative manpower strictly as per UGC guidelines. University will focus not only on academic activities but also on sports, extra-curricular events, universal human values, community and social work etc which will help in creation of better professionals.The participants in the meeting included Mr. M P Singh, IAS Principal Secretary, Technical Education, Mr. R K Verma, IAS, Secretary Technical Education and VC, IKGPTU, Mr. Parveen Thind, IAS, Additional Secretary Finance, Mr. M P Singh Ishar, VC MRS STU, Mr. Dharinder Tayal, Director AICR, Dr. Ravi Kumar, Principal BCET apart from other officials of IKG PTU.
