To take stock of the macadamization and water supply position, the Minister for R&B, Gardens, Parks and Floriculture, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, visited Lasjan and Sanatnagar areas of Amirakadal constituency this morning.Chief Engineer, R&B, S K Razdan Superintending Engineer PHE Mohammad Latief besides other senior engineers of R&B and PHE departments accompanied the Minister.The Minister inspected the corridor identified for laying 18 inch dia water pipe over Lasjan bridge at Bypass and ordered for immediate execution of the work so that water from Tangnar water supply scheme is directed to the population of Srinagar city including its uptown areas. He asked the authorities of PHE department to start work from today and ensure that pipes are laid within shortest possible time.

While inspecting the Water Supply site plan of the area, Syed Altaf asked the engineers of PHE department to expedite pipe laying work in the remaining parts of the Amirakadal constituency and keep in account the needs of the people. He said pipes should be laid in a planned manner so that maximum population in Srinagar benefits from Sukhnag and Tangnar water supply schemes. He also instructed them to start tanker services in those areas where the pipes have not been laid yet.The Minister also inspected the macadamization work in Sanatnagar area and appreciated the engineers for the good job. He asked concerned engineers to develop interior links besides constructing drains in the area. Besides instructing to carry out patch works of the roads where it is necessary, he directed them to shift public utilities hampering the vehicular movement.

Bukhari said that roads are meant for public and vehicular movement and instructed Chief Engineer R&B to start a special drive for removing all road encroachments in the area including other parts of the city. He said road encroachment is the major cause of traffic jamming in the city and directed engineers to be tough against those encroaching roads.The Minister was told that construction of surface drains and footpaths has already been taken up in Sanatnagar area and will be completed during this season. He was informed that work on proposed culvert, part of widening of road at Sanatnagar, will be started shortly.
