As the PDP-BJP coalition Government decided to purchase 100 SUVs for ministers, legislators at the whopping sum of Rs 11 crore , Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Chief G.A Mir Saturday while criticizing the government’s decision, said that on one hand government claims the shortage of public exchequer and on the other hand, it allows the purchase luxury vehicles. The State Government had showered over Rs 11 crores worth bonanza on 100 legislators including MLAs and MLCs by according sanction to purchase of 100 Sports Utility Vehicles Mahindra Scorpio for them with each vehicle costing Rs 11.26 lakh.“I am surprised why the government is purchasing new cars when the ministers already have expensive vehicles like, BP cars, Bolero, Scorpios. On one hand the Mufti Syeed Government claims the shortage of public exchequer for development and public interest activities and on the other hand, they have decided to purchase vehicles. I think the only priority of this government is to use the power for their enjoyment,” G.A Mir told KNS over phone.

He said that everybody knows all the ministers in PDP-BJP government possess more cars than requirement. “Each Minister has kept three to four vehicles for their personal use. I wonder how many vehicles the PDP-BJP minister need. I can say that this move is nothing but only the wastage of public money. It would have been better to utilize this amount for the rehabilitation of flood victims.” he said.He also said that the so called developmental agenda of PDP and BJP as promised by them during elections has proved a hoax. “People are suffering badly in absence of basic facilities. Government machinery is nowhere visible on ground. The tall claims of PDP led coalition about good governance and development of the State was only to lure the voters for the sake of coming into power,”

He also blamed PDP BJP Coalition Government for being non serious about the sufferings and problems of flood hit people.“This government has failed to rehabilitate the flood hit people of Jammu and Kashmir and I must say that the people have lost the faith in this government,”It is to mention here the statement came day after an order was issued by the Home Department, headed by Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, which said that the government would procure the luxury 100 SUVs.“Sanction is accorded to procurement of 100 Mahindra Scorpio vehicles on DGS&D rates of Rs 11,26,208  per vehicle in favour of the Director General of Police, J&K, for use of Hon’ble MLAs/MLCs during the current financial year 2015-16,” said the order signed by Principal Secretary to government, Home Department, RK Goyal.
