A group of 50 farmers of Sub-Division Rafiabad, Rohama, Baramulla and Sopore was flagged off to the Rice Research Station of Sher-i-Kashmir University of Agricultural Science and Technology, Khudwani and Larnoo Kokernag today by Chief Agriculture Officer (CAO), Baramulla, Mr. Abdul Qayoom Shah. The programme is being organized under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY). The main aim of the programme is to apprise the farmers about the latest paddy varieties which are being grown in the Rice Research Stations suitable for different altitudes, as indigenous varieties susceptible to various diseases are still grown in higher belts of Baramulla district which are also are genetically deteriorated. The  varieties which have been developed at the Rice Research Station for different altitudes as per the scientists may prove better for growing in the district as such the farmers were taken personally to the Research Station to observe for themselves the performance of these varieties, so that during next Kharief season these varieties could be introduced into their fields.Among others, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer, Baramulla, Mr. Farooq Ahmad Kakroo and other officers of the department were present.
