The Punjab Government today approved massive re-construction and repair of 5490 kms of state highways and arterial roads within one year.Janmeja Singh Sekhon PWD, Minister today reviewed the work plan chalked out by the Punjab Government for the repair/construction of major highways and link roads in the state in the year 2015-16, in a high level meeting with Chief Engineers of all the wings of the department.Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the Public Works Department (PWD, B & R) said that during the meeting Mr. Sekhon monitored the progress on the work for the special repair of 1062 km long road network. He said that this repair is urgently required owning to the dilapidated condition of the roads. Similarly the progress on the ordinary repair of 4428 km long road network was also monitored by the PWD Minister. The Minister said that the year 2015-16 would witness large scale infrastructural development in Punjab as the state government would execute its comprehensive plan to repair all the major roads of the state besides constructing new links roads to strengthen road connectivity of the rural as well as urban areas.Sekhon also directed the Chief Engineers to float the tenders for the construction of the link roads for which administrative approval have already been generated by the Punjab State Marketing Board. He instructed the Chief Engineers to ensure the construction of these link roads in stipulated time frame.
