The Public Works Department of Punjab is working in full swing to strengthen the Building Infrastructure in the state. Nearly Rs.5031 Cr have been spent between 2007-2015 to Design, Construct and Maintain Government buildings as against meager Rs. 55.50 crore spent by congress during its tenure, informed Mr. Janmeja Singh Sekhon, PWD(B&R) minister Punjab.He said that Rs 3200 crore have been spent on the construction of new buildings including 33 Judicial Court Complexes , 2  District Administrative Complexes, 11 Tehsil Complexes, 2 new jails at Faridkot and Kapurthala. Besides, new construction and upgradation of 466 Adarsh, Model, Meritorious, High Schools, Sports school complexes at Guddha and SAS Nagar and 34 New Polytechnic & Engineering Colleges. New construction works at Amritsar and Faridkot Medical College, 23 Community Health Centres, 7 Rehabilitation Centres, 53 Animal Husbandry Tehsil level and block level Veterinary hospitals, Polyclinic and Cattle Breeding Farm at Raouni and memorial at village Chapparchiri, Chotta and wadda Gallughara memorials and construction of Golden Temple Entrance Plaza have been undertaken.

Various other building works are in progress at a cost of Rs.1831 crore and are likely to be completed by December 2016 including 7 Judicial Court Complexes, 5 District Administrative Complexes, 1 University, 11Govt. Colleges, 18 Adarsh/Senior Secondary/Middle Schools,6 Community Health Centers, construction of various type of Houses under Optimum Utilisation of Vacant Government Lands (OUVGL)  Scheme at Dugri Ludhiana,4 New Modern Jail (Bathinda, ShriMuktsar Sahib, Amritsar and Goindwal at Tarn Taran), Construction of various buildings at Bathinda and Jalandhar under Punjab Technical University Project, Construction of Maha Rishi BalmikiSthal at Ram Tirath at Amritsar, New War Memorial Cum Museum Near Sham Singh Attari Chowk at Amritsar,  various works in Dairy Science and Technology College at Guru Angad Dev Vet. & Animal Science University Ludhiana, State Forest Research Institute at Ladowal Ludhiana, Vit Yojana Bhawan at Chandigarh, New Circuit House at Amritsar, Cattle Breeding Farm at Rampura Phul, Sewa Kendras, New Veterinary Polyclinics at Barnala, Pathankot, Fazilka, 3 Meritorious School at Gurdaspur, Ferozepur and Sangrur, 4 Multi Skill Development Centre at Amritsar, Bathinda, Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur, Aeronautical College at Patiala  and Additional Works (Phase-II) Golden Temple Entrance Plaza Amritsar and Development & Beautification of roads and Junctions from town hall to Golden Temple Amritsar, 5 Multi Skill Development Centres at Amritsar, Bathinda, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Hoshiarpur and construction of Boys and Girls Hostels these centres.

Moreover there are certain proposed works which include 5 Judicial Court Complexes (Hoshiarpur, Patti, Baba Bakala, Giddarwaha & Mukerian), Construction of Instructors building at ITI Lalru and renovation/repair/upgradation works of Govt. Medical College Amritsar etc. and they have been proposed at a cost of Rs.355.00 Crores.He added that the thrust area in construction of buildings has been designing aesthetical and financially feasible buildings and their campus and designing campus while keeping its environmental implications in mind. Moreover, all projects are designed after incorporating suggestion made by the department concerned and the attempt is to design innovative and technically sound buildings. He said that special care has been observed to construct barrier free buildings for the physically challenged users.
