State BJP President Kamal Sharma today met Road Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and apprised him & thanked him for sanctioning of Rs 18,000 crore projects for Punjab during his recent visit.Sharma during his visit also submitted a memorandum to the Union Minister about starting of new road projects for the state in near future. Upon this, Sh.Gadkari assured to look into on priorities. Union Minister of State, Sh. Vijay Sampla also accompanied the state president. In the memorandum, the Punjab BJP chief has demanded to build a bypass road near Ferozepur city through Gulam Hussain Shahwala, Gulchike, Sabuana, Shukar Nullah, Bagge Ke Pippal to state highway 20 so that the entire rush of traffic from the city can be eased out.

“Since Ferozepur city is situated on busy Amritsar-Jalandhar road that connects these two industrial town to Kandla port in Gujarat, so due to heavy movements of truck, the city is always seen full of traffic creating problem for the local commuters. If bypass is made, all this rush would be diverted,” said Sh Sharma. The BJP state chief also demanded from the minister to widen the busy Makhu-Mallanwala road that connects Ferozepur to Amritsar with having its present width only 5.50 meters.

He said that before Independence there was an important rail link between Ferozepur-Amritsar via Kasur (now in Pakistan), Khemkaran and Tarantaran but after independence the link got destroyed. In this scenario, people from Ferozepur district in order to visit Amritsar take Harike-Zira and Tarantaran route that is very narrow keeping in view the heavy movement of traffic. “If this road is widen  to 10 meters, it would be a great relief for the passengers who visit different shrines in Amritsar,” said Sh.Sharma.
