At a time when debates over the PDP-BJP alliance are making rounds, Huriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani on Monday evoked Gujurat riots, saying Modi was the chief minister of the state when more than 3000 Muslims there were slaughtered. According to the KNS correspondent, Geelani while speaking at a seminar titled ‘UN resolutions Basis of Kashmir dispute’ at his Hyderpora residence here also trained guns at PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, accusing him of being the home minister in Government of India (GOI) when incidents like Kunanposhpora mass rape was witnessed. The senior separatist leader also accused the outgoing chief minister Omar Abdullah of downplaying the Shopian rape case, saying Omar at that time claimed that the two women died due to drowning.
Geelani while speaking in the seminar said, “New Delhi terms Kashmir as its integral part on the basis of the presence of 8 lakh troops. We will continue to struggle for our birth right and no power can crush the dissent of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”He maintained that all the mainstream parties including NC, BJP, PDP and Peoples’ Conference are acting as the hurdles for freedom by taking part in elections conducted by GOI. “All the mainstream political parties have a common agenda and that is to legitimize the Indian rule.” Geelani claimed that the BJP and the RSS were the two sides of the same coin and are no different in terms of ideology and stand. “They say that there are going to wipe out the Muslims from India till 2021. I can only tell you that this is the frenzied dream and will never happen.”
He took a dig at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying when 3000 Muslims were massacred in Gujrat, Modi was the chief minister of the state. He said that the claims of BJP to develop Jammu and Kashmir are ‘farce’ and same in no way shall deter the people here to struggle for their birthright. “It was also unfortunate that on BJP ticket, some people in Kashmir contested the polls held for the state assembly earlier. But I can tell you that Kashmir can only be resolved by the implementation of UN resolutions and the hollow slogans of development are not going to affect our struggle for freedom.”
