Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Yasin Malik Thursday said if international community’s appetite to swallow violence has decreased its appetite of giving nations their right of self determination is still high.“Montenegro, East Timor, South Sudan, and Scotland are some glaring examples of nations being given an opportunity to choose their future and boundaries being redrawn,” this was stated by the incarcerated Malik in an emailed statement.Ridiculing the statement of Finance Minister Arun Jaitly he termed it as an “ignorant leaders comments.” “Kashmiris have been hearing these absurd statements by Indian leaders every now and then but these cannot change the disputed status of Jammu Kashmir neither can these deny the need of solving this dispute.

Mighty USSR had to fall giving rise to more than 15 new countries and since 1990, 34 new countries emerged and changed the geography of nations,” he said.“Kashmiris have been witnessing elections from 1950’s and even United Nations has termed these elections as a local affair that have no bearing on the political future status of Jammu Kashmir. If Arun Jaitly wants to befool himself and his nation, we cannot help him, but the reality is that without solving Kashmir dispute the dreams of peace, stability, progress and becoming global leader can never be fulfilled,” Malik claimed. He said that Arun Jaitly needs to revisit history of nations; “he surely will find that no powerful country or nation has ever achieved its goals by suppressing the voices of week nations and no nation that strived for its freedom has ever lost against any powerful nation.”

“These battles are no fought with materialistic means only but passion, ideological firmness and a nation’s valor are the things necessary to fight these battles. A nation that has sacrificed more than 100000 people during a struggle cannot be intimidated by these arrogant statements,” the JKLF chief said. Referring to elections, Malik said, “If Jaitly and his nation is so sure about the support of 70 percent Kashmiris, why don’t they hold a referendum and ask people about their political future. India and its stooges in Kashmir have banned boycott campaign, thousands of political opponents have been arrested and nobody among freedom camp is being allowed to go to the people and hence this whole election drama is a state manipulated theater that has no credibility at all”

He said that Jaitly should bear one thing in mind that India’s military might and economic power cannot deter Kashmiris from perusing the path of freedom and justice and without resolving Jammu Kashmir dispute, sub continent cannot have lasting peace, stability and prosperity. “So instead of issuing these arrogant and ridiculous statements, Indian and its leadership should concentrate on finding ways and means to resolve this dispute according to the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiris. All the roads to peace and prosperity go through Jammu Kashmir and instead of resorting to measures of oppression, tyranny, bribe, intimidations it is better for Indian to take positive steps towards resolving this long pending dispute,” Malik said.

He reiterated that India and Pakistan will have to accept the owner status of Kashmiris, include them in resolution process and find a solution to this dispute on priority basis. Condemning the ongoing crackdown against JKLF, Malik alleged that in Homshalibugh, JKLF activists were being harassed even after the completion of ‘so called’ elections.“Vice president of Kulgam district Assadullah sheikh was taken into custody by police from Kulgam last evening. Also JKLF activist Mushtaq Ahmad of Koreg Ganderbal who was bailed out recently was rearrested by police,” he added.
