Home Minister Rajnath Singh Saturday instructed Delhi Police commissioner B.S. Bassi to ensure that all police stations and other complexes are cleaned within a week, saying that he may undertake surprise visits."Home minister today (Saturday) instructed the Delhi CP (B.S.) Bassi to ensure that all police stations and other complexes are cleaned within a week," a tweet from the home ministry said.

Rajnath Singh also asked Bassi to monitor the cleanliness drive in police buildings.Bassi, who launched a cleanliness drive at the Tilak Marg Police Station in central Delhi Saturday said that the home minister has been in "constant touch" with the force and "has instructed us to clean all other police stations like we cleaned the Mandir Marg Police Station Oct 2".Delhi has nearly 180 police stations."I wanted to assure the people that our men will not only be more sensitized but they will also participate in the drive of cleaning the areas including police stations and their residential complexes," Bassi said. "The home minister may undertake a surprise visit to any police station or other building after a week or so," another tweet said.

"The minister, in addition to saying that he will undertake surprise visits himself, also asked us to inform him of any problems we may face regarding cleanliness and said that he will help resolve them," Bassi said.Bassi also said this was the beginning and drive will be conducted at every police station of Delhi.Prime Minister Narendra Modi Oct 2 launched the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan', a nation-wide cleanliness drive that seeks to clean up the country in five years. Modi had paid a surprise visit to the Mandir Marg police station in central Delhi, on his way to Valmiki Colony to launch the campaign, to check how clean it was - and wielded a broom on finding its environs dirty."The prime minister's initiative is like an energy drink for us as we often conduct such drive at police complexes and police stations," Bassi added.
