Government of India to Organize Special Free Assistive Devices Camps for Senior Citizens and Divyangjan Across Ludhiana: Sukhwinder Singh Bindra

Mr. Sukhwinder Singh Bindra, Member (NISD) and Special Invitee (NCCDR), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, and former State Chairperson of the Punjab Youth Development Board, Government of Punjab, today announced that, under the guidance of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, and Hon’ble Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar, Special Social Empowerment Assessment Camps will be organized across Ludhiana beginning July 23 for the free distribution of assistive devices to senior citizens and persons with disabilities (Divyangjan).

Mr. Bindra stated that, as part of a major welfare initiative of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, (Government of India). special assessment camps will be organized across all urban and rural Assembly constituencies of Ludhiana district.

The Social Empowerment Camps are being organised by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, through the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment and the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society, District Branch, Ludhiana.

During these camps, eligible senior citizens and persons with disabilities (Divyangjan) will undergo assessment for the provision of free assistive devices and artificial limbs, enabling them to lead more independent, dignified, and self-reliant lives. Eligible beneficiaries identified during the assessment camps will receive high-quality assistive devices, including motorized tricycles, manual and motorized wheelchairs, hearing aids, walkers, crutches, smartphones, artificial limbs, calipers, and other daily living assistive devices.

Mr. Bindra appealed to all eligible residents of Ludhiana district to participate in the camps and avail themselves of this important welfare initiative of the Government of India.

Mr. Bindra further stated that during his tenure as State Chairperson of the Punjab Youth Development Board, Government of Punjab, he initiated several programmes aimed at steering youth away from drug abuse and encouraging greater participation in sports. Free sports kits were distributed to youth clubs, colleges, and universities across Punjab to promote sporting culture, while every effort was made to resolve issues faced by athletes so that their sporting careers would not be adversely affected.

He reiterated his continued commitment to the welfare of Punjab, particularly its youth, and emphasized that sports remain one of the most effective tools for preventing substance abuse. He announced that additional sports kits would be distributed in the coming months and that several new initiatives would be launched to encourage greater youth participation in sports.

Mr. Bindra further informed that, under the anti-drug awareness campaign of the Ministry, two major youth programmes have been planned in Punjab. The first programme is scheduled to be held at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, while another programme is proposed at Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar. 

These initiatives are expected to witness the participation of thousands of young people from across the country and will focus on promoting a drug-free, healthy, and sports-oriented lifestyle. In conclusion, Mr. Bindra expressed his sincere gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, and Hon’ble Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar for their visionary leadership and continued support in making this landmark welfare initiative possible for the people of Ludhiana.
