Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said the state government is making sustained investments in sports infrastructure, training facilities and equipment support to help young athletes realise their potential and compete at the highest level.

In a post on social media, the Chief Minister said the government's focus is on nurturing sporting talent by creating an ecosystem that enables athletes to progress from the grassroots to the international stage. "We are investing in our youth to nurture sporting talent and help them realise their dreams on the global arena.

This is being done through a mix of infrastructure, training and equipment support," CM Sarma said. Highlighting the government's ongoing initiatives, the Chief Minister said Assam's sporting journey is continuing "from local fields to the global arena" through a series of projects aimed at strengthening sports infrastructure across the state.

According to the details shared by CM Sarma, the government is setting up High Performance Sports Training and Rehabilitation Centres in three cities to provide scientific coaching and injury management facilities for athletes. The state is also supplying sports equipment to youth clubs across all Assembly constituencies with the objective of encouraging grassroots participation and identifying promising talent from rural and urban areas alike.

Among the major infrastructure projects, the government is redeveloping the Radha Govinda Baruah Sports Complex and constructing an open stadium at the Amingaon Sports Complex. The expansion of Khanikar Stadium in Dibrugarh is also underway to improve sporting facilities in Upper Assam and host larger sporting events.

In addition, an Archery Academy is being established at Sonari to promote the traditional strength of the region in the discipline and produce athletes capable of representing the state and the country in national and international competitions.

The Chief Minister has repeatedly emphasised that sports development remains a key component of the state's youth empowerment strategy, with the government focusing on modern infrastructure, quality coaching and better access to sporting resources to create a strong pipeline of athletes from Assam.
