Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Dhiraj Seth, who is on a visit to the Eastern Command, reviewed the operational preparedness of the Tezpur-based IV Corps, also known as the Gajraj Corps, on Thursday. Over the last two days, he has visited the headquarters of the XXXIII Corps, or Trishakti Corps, in Sukna and the III Corps (Spear Corps) in Dimapur.

The Gajraj Corps is entrusted with the security of Assam and parts of Arunachal Pradesh. Gen Seth met top commanders and was briefed on the prevailing security situation, operational readiness, and capability development initiatives by units and formations of Eastern Command in the area.

He also reviewed the measures undertaken by the formation to maintain peace, stability, and a secure environment in the region. This important Corps comprises three Mountain Divisions. While the 71st Mountain Division is based at Missamari in Assam, the 21st Mountain Division (Red Horn Division) is stationed at Rangia in the same state.

Its 5th Mountain Division (Ball of Fire Division) is headquartered at Rupa, near Bomdila in Arunachal Pradesh. This is close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC). This Division is posted to the west of the 2nd Mountain Division that comes under the Spear Corps.

During his interactions, the COAS was apprised of the Gajraj Corps' close coordination with the civil administration and Central Armed Police Forces through developmental initiatives, community outreach programmes, and sustained assistance to local authorities.

Gen Seth commended the formation for its significant contribution towards maintaining internal security in Assam and Meghalaya, as well as its prompt and effective response during disaster relief and humanitarian assistance operations. The general officer interacted with the troops and lauded their professionalism, high morale, and commitment to duty.

He appreciated the formation's innovative approach and effective adoption of emerging technologies to enhance operational capability. The Corps has acquired modern technology such as drones and takes part in airborne exercises with the Indian Air Force.

During his address, the COAS exhorted all ranks to remain mission-focused, strengthen inter-agency synergy, and maintain the highest standards of operational preparedness to effectively address emerging security challenges in an evolving multi-domain environment.
