District Development Commissioner Doda Krishan Lal today chaired a meeting of the District Level Cooperative Development Committee (DLCDC) to review functioning of cooperative institutions in the district and assess progress of initiatives to strengthen the cooperative sector.
The Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies presented an overview of the status of cooperative societies in the district, covering their performance, activities, financial position and measures to promote the cooperative movement.
Work on food grain storage facilities under Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) is under way, he informed the Chair, adding that nine PACS are functioning as Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samruddhi Kendras (PMKSKs), two as Farmer Producer Units (FPUs) and four have been registered as Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs).
The meeting also reviewed implementation of the Cooperative Infrastructure Development Fund (CIDF), progress under cooperative development initiatives, capacity-building programmes, registration of new cooperative societies and implementation of schemes of the Ministry of Cooperation and the Government of Jammu & Kashmir.
The DDC reviewed functioning of PACS, dairy, consumer and other cooperative societies, highlighting their role in enhancing rural livelihoods, strengthening agricultural support systems and fostering economic growth. He called for greater public awareness of cooperative schemes and urged officers to encourage formation of viable cooperative societies, particularly among farmers, women, youth and self-help groups.
The DDC directed officers to ensure effective implementation of cooperative initiatives at the grassroots level by organising awareness camps and mobilising local resources through Primary Agricultural Credit Societies, saying strengthening primary-level institutions would improve rural livelihoods and expand the cooperative movement across the district.
Among those present were Chief Planning Officer Doda, District Manager NABARD, ACP Doda, CAHO Doda, CAO Doda, DSHO Doda, officials from DIC and officers concerned.
