Haryana Irrigation and Water Resources Minister, Shruti Choudhry on Saturday reviewed the progress of flood control works and the prevailing flood situation in the state during a meeting with senior officers of the department. 

A detailed review was done regarding the ongoing flood control works across all divisions of the state, drainage arrangements, preparedness in vulnerable areas, and the progress of departmental works.The Minister directed officers concerned to ensure that all flood control works are completed within the stipulated timeframe in view of the ongoing monsoon so that no loss of life or property occurs in any part of the state.

During the meeting, officers apprised the Minister that more than 80 per cent flood control works in the state have already been completed.  The remaining works are also progressing rapidly and are targeted for completion by July 31, 2026. They further informed that a very few works may require additional time due to technical issues related to re-tendering and procurement procedures.

Shruti Choudhry directed the department's officers to ensure that all remaining works are completed by July 25, 2026. She said that no negligence or laxity whatsoever in flood control works during the monsoon would be tolerated. If any officer is found negligent or responsible for unnecessary delays in the execution of works, strict disciplinary action will be initiated against the concerned officer, said the Minister.

The Cabinet Minister also directed that agencies which have failed to complete works within the prescribed timeline or have not yet commenced the assigned works should face penal action as per rules. She said there would be zero tolerance for any laxity or indifference in works related to public safety, and directed that all projects be monitored on a regular basis.

During the meeting a special review of the situation in the Ambala and Hisar divisions were also done.The Minister  directed the officers of both divisions to remain fully alert and prepared to deal with any possible flood situation in their respective areas and to maintain continuous surveillance over vulnerable locations. 

She  further directed that drainage systems, embankments, pumping stations and all other flood protection infrastructure be kept fully operational so that immediate and effective action can be taken whenever required.The Minister further directed that in areas identified as flood-prone leave of officers and employees posted there should not be sanctioned without her prior approval. 

She said that during the monsoon season, all officers and employees must remain available at their respective headquarters with full preparedness so that relief and rescue operations can be launched immediately in the event of any emergency.
