Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mohammad Alyas Khan today chaired a meeting of the District Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) to review the implementation of animal welfare measures across the district.
The meeting was attended by ADC Varunjeet Singh Charak, ACP Sheraz Ahmed, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Ramban Rajesh Arora, Tehsildar Headquarters Reejuta Mahajan and officers from the Indian Army, Forest Department, Wildlife Department, Municipal Committees and other concerned departments.
The Deputy Commissioner reviewed the action taken by the concerned departments on the directions issued during the previous SPCA meeting. Detailed discussions were held on sterilisation and vaccination of stray dogs, their relocation from institutional areas, inspection reports for the quarters ending March and June 2026, identification of infrastructure gaps for establishing a fully functional Animal Birth Control (ABC) Centre and creation of dedicated feeding spaces for stray dogs in each municipal ward.
The Deputy Commissioner also directed the initiation of companion animal registration and instructed the Municipal Committees to identify suitable sites for animal shelters. Emphasising coordinated efforts, the Deputy Commissioner directed all stakeholder departments to work in close coordination for effective implementation of SPCA guidelines and strengthening of animal welfare mechanisms across the district.
