Punjab Horticulture Minister, Mr. Mohinder Bhagat, said that the farmer-friendly policies being implemented by the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Bhagwant Singh Mann to promote farmers' welfare and enhance their income are delivering encouraging results. He said that as a result of these sustained efforts, the area under horticulture in the state has expanded to 5.21 lakh hectares, marking a significant milestone in the growth of state's horticulture sector.
Mr. Mohinder Bhagat said that the Punjab Government is actively encouraging farmers to diversify beyond the traditional crop cycle by taking up the cultivation of fruits, vegetables, flowers, and other high-value horticultural crops. He said that this shift is not only increasing farmers' income but is also making horticulture a more profitable, sustainable, and future-oriented farming enterprise.
The Cabinet Minister further said that the Horticulture Department is extending financial assistance under various government schemes, providing technical guidance, supplying quality planting material, and creating awareness about modern horticultural practices to help farmers improve productivity and profitability. He said that the Departmental officers have been directed to ensure that the benefits of every government scheme reach all eligible farmers in a timely and transparent manner.
Appealing to farmers to make the fullest use of the government schemes related to horticulture, Mr. Bhagat urged them to contact their nearest Horticulture Office for any information, guidance, or assistance.
