Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) RTI Cell chairperson Paramjit Singh Sunny today said the police force was facilitating the drug racket in Punjab jails under political patronage and that this had been proved after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government was forced to arrest two jail officials in Hoshiarpur after the entire racket was exposed live by an inmate.
Asserting that this was the real face of the Yudh Nashean Virudh campaign of the AAP government, Mr Paramjit Sunny said the government had spent Rs 6.10 crore in advertising the campaign in Ludhiana alone even while drugs were being home delivered on order in Punjab.
“In the case of the Hoshiarpur jail incident, it has been proved that the jailors themselves were responsible for supplying drugs to inmates. This is not all. Criminals have been given a free hand in the jails due to which extortions and targeted killings are on the rise in the State”.
Mr Sunny also made another disclosure which exposed the so-called anti-corruption help line of the AAP government. He said as per a RTI reply, the government had claimed that the anti-corruption helpline had received 5.33 lakh complaints from 2022 to 20226.
“Despite such a large number of complaints being received, the government disclosed in its reply that it had taken action in only 1394 cases”. He said this was not all. “The government also admitted that only one person had been convicted and that no complaint had been received against any legislator or minister.
This proves that the anti-corruption helpline is a sham and that the AAP government does not have any desire to root out corruption as promised by it”.In another startling disclosure, Mr Sunny said the government had spent crores to put up boards from Jammu and Kashmir to Kanyakumari claiming the AAP government was building 6,000 playgrounds in the State.
“When an RTI query was made in this regard, it was revealed that this intention was disclosed in the budget session last year and that the matter was still under consideration. This again proves that the AAP government is misusing public funds to create a false narrative about its achievements”, the RTI Chairperson added.
