Punjab Releases ₹1,583 Crore in Social Security Aid, Benefits Lakhs of Vulnerable Citizens

Annual Social Security Budget of ₹6,131.91 Crore Ensuring Welfare of Nearly 3.6 Million Beneficiaries

Timely social security assistance provided to thousands of senior citizens and needy families across Punjab is not merely financial support but also a means of ensuring their dignity, security and well-being. In line with this commitment, the Department of Social Security, Women and Child Development, Government of Punjab, has released more than ₹1,583 crore during the financial year 2026–27 so far.

Sharing this information, MLA from Amritsar East, Jeevan Jyot Kaur, said that the initiative has directly benefited lakhs of senior citizens, widows, destitute women, orphaned and dependent children, and persons with disabilities through timely financial assistance. She said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government has further strengthened the social security framework by ensuring that assistance reaches the most deserving beneficiaries promptly and with dignity.

The MLA stated that for the Punjab Government, social security is not merely a budgetary provision but a solemn commitment towards the welfare of vulnerable sections of society. She said that the State Government has allocated a record ₹6,131.91 crore for social security and welfare schemes during the current financial year. 

This historic allocation is ensuring regular financial assistance to nearly 3.6 million beneficiaries across the state. Jeevan Jyot Kaur further informed that more than ₹1,048 crore has been directly transferred into the bank accounts of beneficiaries under the Old Age Pension Scheme. 

Similarly, over ₹535 crore has been released under various social security schemes benefiting widows, destitute women, orphaned and dependent children, and persons with disabilities. She added that these initiatives further reinforce the Punjab Government's commitment to building a socially secure, inclusive and prosperous Punjab.
