Chairman of the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission, Jasvir Singh Garhi, on Tuesday participated in the "Commission Volunteer Public Interaction" programme organised at S.P. Resort near India Gate, Chheharta. The programme was organised under the leadership of Punjab SC Commission volunteer Rajinder Singh Sandhu.
A large number of volunteers belonging to the Scheduled Castes community from 11 Assembly constituencies of Amritsar district and 4 Assembly constituencies of Tarn Taran district attended the programme along with their associates. Chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi received a warm welcome from the volunteers upon his arrival.
On the occasion, Chairman S. Jasvir Singh Garhi listened to the grievances of the people and assured them that their issues would be resolved on a priority basis. Addressing the gathering, he said that complaints received by the Commission are being disposed of expeditiously, with special emphasis on ensuring timely justice at the grassroots level.
He stated that the Commission receives a large number of complaints every year, many of which relate to the Police Department. To ensure their prompt and effective disposal, the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission, the Punjab Government and the Police Department are working in close coordination.
Chairman Garhi said that the primary objective of the programme was to create awareness among people living in border areas about their legal rights, ensure the effective implementation of legal provisions in sensitive matters, and enhance legal awareness among the public. He added that such initiatives would help reduce grievances relating to poor and Scheduled Castes communities and ensure timely justice for them.
He further said that the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission is fully committed to discharging its statutory responsibilities for safeguarding the rights of Scheduled Castes and addressing complaints concerning them. He stated that every complaint received by the Commission is examined impartially in accordance with the due process of law, and that the Commission is working in coordination with the concerned departments to ensure the prompt redressal of grievances and provide relief to affected persons.
Emphasising the need for public awareness, he said that people should be made aware of the various provisions, rights and penalties under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act to ensure its effective implementation. He informed that awareness programmes on this subject are being organised continuously in several districts across Punjab.
On the occasion, volunteer Rajinder Singh Sandhu honoured Chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi. Among those present were Senior Volunteer of the Punjab SC Commission Rajinder Singh Sandhu, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Surinder Singh, District Social Justice and Empowerment Officer Bikramjit Singh Purewal, Advocate Ajay Sharma, Gurbhej Singh Dhattal, Deepak Sharma, Arun Kumar Sharma, Chairman Gopal Singh Gopala, and several other volunteers.
