To meet the growing drinking water requirements of Suhana village in view of its increasing population and historical significance, the Department of Water Supply and Sanitation, Punjab, today commenced the work of Suhana Canal Water Rising Main Project at a cost of Rs 48.50 lakh.

The project was formally inaugurated by MLA Kulwant Singh. MLA Kulwant Singh said that Suhana is presently being supplied drinking water through five tubewells, which are no longer sufficient to cater to the existing and future demand. Keeping this in view, the project has been planned to connect the village with the GMADA Canal Water Supply Scheme through a new rising main pipeline.

He informed that upon completion of the project, Suhana will receive approximately 1.3 million litres of additional water per day, significantly strengthening the existing water supply system and ensuring a regular supply of safe drinking water to residents.

The project will also provide a permanent solution to the problems of low water pressure and inadequate water availability while reducing dependence on tube wells. The MLA further stated that the Department will also commence the construction of two new Underground Storage Reservoirs (UGSRs) within the next month to facilitate efficient storage and distribution of the additional water.

The combined cost of the Rising Main and the two UGSR projects is approximately Rs 98 lakh, of which the Rising Main component launched today accounts for Rs 48.50 lakh. He said the new pipeline and storage infrastructure will enhance the reliability and efficiency of the village's water distribution network, particularly during the summer season when water demand is at its peak.

The project will ensure adequate water supply to meet the needs of the growing population and create a more sustainable and dependable drinking water system for the future. Describing the initiative as a significant step towards strengthening civic infrastructure, MLA Kulwant Singh said the project reflects the Punjab Government's commitment to providing better basic amenities and ensuring long-term water security for the residents of Suhana.

Senior Deputy Mayor, Municipal Corporation Mohali, R.P. Sharma; Councillors Kamaljit Kaur, Sharanjit Kaur, Gurjit Singh and Harpal Singh Brar; Kuldeep Singh Samana; Surinder Singh Roda; Rupinder Singh Roopa; Numberdar Harsangat Singh; Block President Parminder Singh; Jagtar Singh and other prominent residents were present on the occasion.
