Punjab Public Works Minister Harbhajan Singh E.T.O. laid the foundation stone of a new 66 KV power substation at Village Dasmesh Nagar in the Jandiala Guru Assembly Constituency yesterday evening. The Punjab Government is spending approximately ₹7 crore on the construction of this substation.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh E.T.O. said that residents of Dasmesh Nagar and surrounding villages had been demanding a power substation in the area for a long time, and the Punjab Government has now fulfilled this long-pending demand. He stated that due to the considerable distance of the existing substation, residents were facing several issues related to electricity supply.
Keeping public convenience in mind, the government has initiated this important project to address those concerns. The Minister informed that around ₹7 crore will be spent on the construction of the 66 KV substation.
A 66/11 KV, 20 MVA capacity power transformer will be installed at the substation, which will significantly improve the electricity supply system in the region. Harbhajan Singh E.T.O. further stated that once operational, the substation will provide more reliable and uninterrupted electricity supply not only to Dasmesh Nagar but also to consumers in nearby villages including Akalgarh Dhapaiyan, Rasulpur, Malowal, Bamma and Khalehira.
He added that several feeders currently operating from the 66 KV Tarsika and Nava Pind substations will be connected to the new substation. This will reduce the length of 11 KV lines and help resolve voltage-related issues.
He said that the project will directly benefit approximately 4,604 consumers and indirectly benefit around 22,705 consumers. Besides improving the overall efficiency of the power distribution system, the project will also help meet the region’s future electricity demand.
The Cabinet Minister said that after the commissioning of the 66 KV Dasmesh Nagar Substation, residents of the area will receive Category-I standard power supply, similar to urban areas, ensuring uninterrupted electricity and substantial relief from power cuts.
On the occasion, the Minister, along with officials and employees of PSPCL and residents of Dasmesh Nagar, planted saplings and conveyed the message of “Plant Trees, Save Humanity.” He appealed to the people of Punjab to plant more trees for environmental conservation. Residents also expressed their gratitude to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh E.T.O. for establishing the new power substation.
It is noteworthy that Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh E.T.O. has been continuously making efforts to strengthen the power infrastructure in the Jandiala Guru Assembly Constituency. Earlier, on March 17, 2026, he had also inaugurated the construction work of another 66 KV substation at Village Gaddli, which is expected to be completed soon.
