"Our Government’s objective is not merely to implement welfare schemes, but to ensure that timely support reaches every needy and differently-abled individual, making their lives easier, more secure and dignified." This was stated by Punjab’s Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development, Dr. Baljit Kaur, while sharing the progress of initiatives being undertaken by the department for the welfare of persons with disabilities.

Highlighting the achievements of the department, Dr. Baljit Kaur said that under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government has released more than Rs. 125 crore as financial assistance to persons with disabilities up to May 2026. She said that this reflects the Government’s strong commitment towards safeguarding the rights and welfare of vulnerable sections of society and ensuring that they receive the support they deserve.

The Cabinet Minister further informed that the State Government has already earmarked a substantial budget provision of Rs. 498 crore for the financial year 2026-27 to continue this important welfare initiative. She stated that more than 2.83 lakh beneficiaries across the State are directly benefiting from the scheme, helping them attain greater financial security and reducing their dependence on others for their livelihood.

Dr. Baljit Kaur further stated that persons with disabilities having an annual income of Rs. 60,000 or less are eligible to avail benefits under the scheme. In addition, the applicant must have a disability of at least 50 percent and should be unable to earn a livelihood independently.

Sharing the Government’s broader vision, Dr. Baljit Kaur said that the dream of building a “Rangla Punjab” can only be realized when every citizen feels secure, empowered and prosperous. She emphasized that a truly inclusive Punjab can be created only when the most vulnerable and differently-abled members of society are able to live with dignity, confidence and economic self-reliance.

The Minister also stressed that financial assistance to persons with disabilities is a highly sensitive matter. Therefore, strict instructions have been issued to all departmental officials to ensure that financial assistance is disbursed to beneficiaries every month without any delay, so that no individual faces hardship in meeting daily needs.

Reaffirming the Government’s commitment, Dr. Baljit Kaur said that the Punjab Government will continue to work tirelessly for the welfare, empowerment and social security of persons with disabilities, ensuring that they are able to participate fully in the State’s journey towards inclusive growth and development.
