Haryana Irrigation and Water Resources Minister, Shruti Choudhry, said that for the first time in Haryana, a World Bank-supported Integrated Water Management Project (Integrated Water Plan) worth approximately Rs. 5,700 crore is being implemented, which will prove to be a game changer for the entire state.
She said that during the Congress regime, public welfare-oriented development works did not receive the attention they deserved.The Minister was interacting with media representatives after chairing the monthly meeting of the District Public Relations and Grievances Committee held at the DRDA Hall in the District Development Bhawan, Rohtak on Thursday.
Replying to a question regarding water availability and irrigation arrangements, Smt. Shruti Choudhry said that the State Government is working with a long-term and scientific vision towards water management. She said that in the past, greater emphasis was placed on localised and temporary arrangements for water distribution, whereas the present government is developing the entire irrigation system through an integrated approach.
She said that under this project, modern Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems will be installed at all major water control centres across the state. This will enable real-time monitoring of the quantity of water flowing through canals, the distribution mechanism and the actual delivery of water up to the tail-end areas.
Smt. Shruti Choudhry further said that the comprehensive plan also includes various components such as micro-irrigation, groundwater recharge, water conservation and improvements in agricultural practices. The objective of the project is to ensure that water reaches every region of the state in an equal and just manner while ensuring maximum conservation and optimum utilisation of water resources.
She said the State Government is working with seriousness and foresight in the field of water management and every citizen and farmer of Haryana will benefit from this initiative.The Irrigation and Water Resources Minister said that with the objective of strengthening flood management and disaster preparedness, the State Government has approved flood protection works in 19 villages at a cost of approximately Rs. 24.36 crore.
These schemes are also being formally inaugurated. She said that the area is low-lying in nature and remains particularly vulnerable during heavy rains and flood situations. Referring to the previous spell of heavy rainfall, she said that the Irrigation Department had worked effectively to manage the situation and, keeping the forthcoming monsoon in view, all necessary preparations are already being made so that people do not face any inconvenience.
Shruti Choudhry said that the Jhajjar Sub-Branch Canal, considered the lifeline of the region, has not undergone comprehensive remodelling and relining since 1994. Due to prolonged lack of maintenance, issues of water loss had also emerged. Keeping this in view, the project has been approved under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister, under which remodelling works of the canal will be undertaken at a cost of approximately Rs. 14 crore. This will directly benefit farmers and residents of the surrounding areas.
*Rohtak District gets Six Key Development Projects worth over Rs. 38.44 Crore*
Earlier, Smt. Shruti Choudhry inaugurated and laid foundation stones for six major development projects worth approximately Rs. 38 crore 44 lakh 88 thousand at the Irrigation Rest House in Rohtak. The projects are aimed at strengthening irrigation, drainage and infrastructure facilities in the district.
She said that the projects would significantly strengthen irrigation and drainage arrangements and benefit thousands of acres of agricultural land, while ensuring a permanent solution to waterlogging problems in several villages.Under the first project, an RCC trough has been constructed on the Rohtak Link Drain from RD 1100 to RD 1750 within the inhabited area of Simli village.
An amount of Rs. 1.64 crore has been spent on this work and it will benefit approximately 500 acres of land.Under the second project, a 900 mm diameter NP-3 RCC underground pipeline has been laid for the drainage of rainwater and floodwater from the low-lying areas of Ladhaut village and its disposal into the Makrauli Link Drain at RD 8600/L.
More than Rs. 1.32 crore has been spent on this project and it will benefit around 300 acres of land as well as the villages of Ladhaut and Bhaiyapur.Under the third project, 900 mm and 600 mm diameter NP-3 RCC underground pipelines along with a pump house have been constructed in Asan village.
Through this project, effective drainage of floodwater from the catchment area of the Asan Link Drain will be ensured. More than Rs. 3.06 crore has been spent on the project and it will benefit approximately 800 acres of land.The fourth project includes the construction of a multi-storey workshop building near the Delhi Bypass in Rohtak. An amount of Rs. 5.36 crore has been spent on the construction of this facility.
Under the fifth project, flood protection works will be carried out in the Garhi-Sampla-Kiloi, Meham and Kalanaur Assembly constituencies. The total cost of the project is approximately Rs. 13 crore. Upon completion, the project will benefit about 10,550 acres of land and provide relief from waterlogging to numerous villages including Asan, Dhamar, Kiloi, Gandhra, Chuliana, Ismaila, Sampla, Kharawar, Paksma, Saiman, Behlba, Balambha, Bhaini Mato, Bhaini Surjan and Bhaini Bhairo.
Under the sixth and largest project, remodelling of the Jhajjar Sub-Branch Canal from RD-0 to RD-62107 will be undertaken. More than Rs. 14 crore will be spent on this ambitious project, which will benefit approximately 32,500 acres of agricultural land. The project will further strengthen irrigation and drainage facilities in Rohtak city and surrounding areas including Kanheli, Sunaria Kalan, Baland, Rithauli, Kabulpur, Dighal and Gochhi.
The Minister said that completion of all these projects will lead to substantial improvement in drainage infrastructure across the district, reduce flooding and waterlogging problems, strengthen irrigation facilities and provide direct benefits to farmers and the general public. She added that the projects will also give fresh momentum to infrastructure development and further accelerate the district’s overall growth and development.

The exhibition showcased the major achievements of the Government of India over the past 12 years. Through the exhibition, the achievements of the Central Government over the past 12 years were presented before the public.
