A Special TB-HIV Collaborative Detection Camp was organised today at Mauli Jagran Dispensary by the State TB Unit and the Health Department, UT Chandigarh. The camp was inaugurated by Member of Parliament from Chandigarh, Shri Manish Tewari.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Manish Tewari stressed the importance of early detection and timely treatment of Tuberculosis (TB) and HIV. He appreciated the efforts of the Health Department and the Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society (CSACS) in taking essential healthcare services closer to the community and spreading awareness about prevention and treatment.
Dr. Sadbhavna Pandit, Medical Superintendent-cum-Joint Director, Health Department, UT Chandigarh, and Project Director, CSACS, highlighted the significance of the Break Free App, an HIV self-assessment tool promoted by the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO). She said that digital initiatives such as the app help individuals assess their HIV risk confidentially and facilitate timely testing and linkage to care services.
The camp offered free TB and HIV screening, counselling services, and information on prevention, diagnosis, and treatment available under the National AIDS & STI Control Programme and the National TB Elimination Programme. Health experts and counsellors also interacted with community members and encouraged voluntary testing without fear or stigma.
Officials of the Health Department stated that early diagnosis of TB and HIV significantly improves treatment outcomes. The camp aimed to enhance community awareness, promote voluntary testing, and ensure timely referral and treatment of at-risk individuals.
A large number of residents from Mauli Jagran and nearby areas participated in the camp and availed themselves of the screening and counselling services.
