The election for the Mayor of Municipal Corporation Barnala was held today at the Shri Ram Sarup Ankhi Memorial Library of Municipal Corporation Office, Barnala. In a historic milestone for the city, Hasan Bhardwaj was elected as the first Mayor of Municipal Corporation Barnala, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the city’s civic administration.
Before the election process, elected councillors of Municipal Corporation Barnala were administered the oath of office. The oath-taking ceremony and election proceedings were conducted under the supervision of Commissioner, Patiala Division, Shri Vinay Bublani, IAS, who acted as the Convener.
Following the election, Hasan Bhardwaj formally assumed charge as Mayor of Municipal Corporation Barnala in the presence of Punjab Finance Minister S. Harpal Singh Cheema and Member of Parliament S. Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, MLA Mehal Kalan Kulwant Singh Pandori, MLA Bhadaur Labh Singh Ugoke. Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, who had been assigned by the party high command to oversee the mayoral election on behalf of the party, and Member of Parliament Meet Hayer congratulated the newly elected Mayor and expressed confidence that the new team would work with full dedication to further accelerate Barnala’s development.
Addressing the media on the occasion, Minister Harpal Cheema said that in the urban local body elections, the people of Punjab and Barnala had strongly endorsed the pro-people policies and good governance of the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and had given a decisive mandate to the Aam Aadmi Party.
Municipal Corporation will get adequate funds for development works, he added. On this occasion, Meet Hayer said that the status of a Municipal Corporation was granted to Barnala with the vision of developing it into a model city.
He expressed complete faith in the newly elected Mayor and councillors, who will now work dedicatedly towards achieving this goal. Thanking all councillors for ensuring the smooth conduct of the election process, Meet Hayer urged the Mayor and councillors to work tirelessly in the service of the people of Barnala.
Also present on the occasion were District Planning Board Chairman Parminder Singh Bhangu, Improvement Trust Chairman Ram Tirath Mann, Halka In-charge Harinder Singh Dhaliwal, District Planning Board Member Ishwinder Singh Jandu, Municipal Corporation councillors, party leaders, officials and supporters.
