Reaffirming its unwavering commitment to the dignity, safety and welfare of senior citizens, the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann has once again demonstrated its people-centric and responsive governance by ensuring swift justice to an elderly woman from Mansa district who had sought help against alleged harassment and exploitation.

Acting promptly under the guidance of Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur, the Department facilitated immediate intervention, leading to legal action and the arrest of the accused. Sharing details, Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said that the elderly woman had approached the authorities alleging harassment and mental distress arising from a family and property-related dispute.

Taking serious note of the complaint, the District Social Security Officer, Mansa, immediately coordinated with the concerned authorities to ensure timely action. Following an investigation, the police registered an FIR and arrested the accused in accordance with the law.

The Minister stated that any form of abuse, neglect or exploitation of senior citizens is unacceptable and will not be tolerated under any circumstances. She emphasized that the Punjab Government is firmly committed to protecting the rights of elderly citizens and ensuring that they are able to live with dignity, security and respect.

Dr. Baljit Kaur further said that the government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards crimes and injustices committed against senior citizens. She reiterated that victims will receive prompt assistance and support, while strict legal action will be taken against those found guilty of mistreating elderly persons.

As part of the follow-up process, departmental officials met the elderly woman to assess her well-being and assured her of all possible assistance. She was also informed about the facilities available at the district's Satkar Ghar, where safe accommodation, care and other essential support services can be provided whenever required.

Officials also visited the Satkar Ghar and interacted with resident senior citizens to understand their concerns and requirements. Necessary directions were issued to further strengthen services relating to their health, safety and overall welfare.

Appealing to the public, Dr. Baljit Kaur urged citizens to immediately report any instance of abuse, neglect or property-related exploitation of senior citizens to the concerned authorities or through the Elder Helpline 14567. She reiterated that the Punjab Government remains fully committed to safeguarding the rights, dignity and well-being of senior citizens and will continue to extend every possible support to elderly persons in need, ensuring that no senior citizen is left unheard or unsupported.
