To further strengthen the Punjab Government’s flagship “War Against Drugs” campaign being spearheaded under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Nasha Mukti Morcha has initiated a series of constituency-level meetings from the macro to the micro level.

As part of this initiative, an important meeting was organized yesterday evening in the Amritsar East Assembly Constituency. During the meeting, feedback was obtained from members of village and ward-level Defence Committees regarding the prevailing drug situation in their respective areas.

Discussions were also held on formulating a collective strategy to further intensify the fight against drug abuse. Addressing the gathering, MLA Jeevan Jyot Kaur said that every section of society must contribute towards the fight against drugs. She emphasized that Defence Committees and local representatives form the backbone of this campaign, playing a crucial role in creating awareness at the grassroots level and supporting the administration in its efforts.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor of Amritsar Jatinder Singh Moti Bhatia said that drug addiction is a social evil and every section of society must come forward to eradicate it from its roots. He added that the initiatives being undertaken by the Mann Government for a drug-free Punjab are highly commendable and deserve wholehearted public support.

On this occasion, Dixit Dhawan, In-charge of Nasha Mukti Morcha, Majha Zone, stated that this campaign is not merely a government programme but is gradually transforming into a people's movement. He said that the dream of a drug-free Punjab can only be realized through the active participation of citizens from both rural and urban areas.

Among those present were Sahib Singh, Lucky Kapoor, S.K. Kaler, and officials from the administration including Hitesh Vir Gupta (Nodal Officer East-cum-RTO, Amritsar), Ravinder Singh (ACP East) and SHOs of various police stations. Block Presidents, Acting Presidents and Conveners of wards and villages associated with Nasha Mukti Morcha, Amritsar East, also participated in the meeting.

All attendees pledged their full support to the government and administration in achieving the goal of a drug-free Punjab. The speakers stated that in keeping with the spirit of “Villages and Cities Connect Directly with the Chief Minister,” public concerns and suggestions are being conveyed directly to the government to ensure a lasting solution to the problem of drug abuse.
