Deputy Commissioner Ramban Mohammad Alyas Khan today conducted an extensive inspection of the ongoing NH-44 four-laning project from Nashri to Banihal. He reviewed the progress of critical infrastructure works and directed the executing agencies to ensure safe, smooth and comfortable road connectivity ahead of the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026.

The Deputy Commissioner carried out the inspection jointly with Senior Superintendent of Police Arun Gupta, Additional Deputy Commissioner Varunjeet Singh Charak, SDM Banihal Mohammad Naseeb Bajraan, SDM Ramsoo Sayed Mazahir Hussain Shah, ACD Sheraz Ahmed,  Dy. SP Traffic,  Representatives of  NHAI  and other concerned officers from the District Administration, NHAI, CRPF, Army and allied departments.

Officers from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) briefed the Deputy Commissioner on the status of key components of the four-laning project. The officials informed that work is progressing rapidly on a crucial 3.5-kilometre tunnel and assured that it would be completed and made operational before the commencement of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, significantly improving traffic movement and reducing travel time on the highway.

The Deputy Commissioner was also apprised that two major viaducts along the project corridor are nearing completion, with one expected to be fully operational before the pilgrimage begins. In addition, intensive work is underway on an important 1.2-kilometre stretch, which is also targeted for completion ahead of the Yatra.

Emphasizing the importance of timely execution, the Deputy Commissioner noted that completion of these vital infrastructure components would greatly enhance road safety and ensure hassle-free travel for pilgrims undertaking the annual pilgrimage. He observed that the tunnel, particularly in the difficult terrain beyond the Digdole area, would provide immense relief not only to Yatris but also to local commuters who use the highway throughout the year.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the officers of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to clear debris at Dalwas, complete blacktopping works in the Chanderkote Tunnel area, install crash barriers, widen the Seri–Chamba stretch and ensure completion of all remaining works before the commencement of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need to maintain the pace of work while ensuring strict adherence to quality and safety standards. He stressed close coordination among all stakeholders to facilitate uninterrupted traffic movement on NH-44 during the monsoon season, particularly during the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026.
