To mark World Bicycle Day, the Cycling Association of Punjab, under the leadership of its President, Charanjit Singh Dhaliwal, organised the Asmita Khelo India Women’s League and a grand Cycle Rally at Bassi Pathana. A large number of women, youth, students, athletes and members of various sections of society participated in the event, promoting the message of a healthy lifestyle and environmental conservation.
MLA Rupinder Singh Happy attended the event as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, he said that cycling is not only beneficial for physical fitness but also plays a significant role in reducing pollution and conserving fuel. He encouraged young people and women to actively participate in sports and cycling and appreciated such initiatives. He also assured full support to the District Cycling Association, Fatehgarh Sahib.
Speaking on the occasion, Jagdeep Singh Kahlon, General Secretary of the Cycling Association of Punjab, said that continuous efforts are being made by the Cycling Federation of India to promote cycling and encourage women cyclists across the country.
He added that the newly elected body of the Cycling Association of Punjab is making every possible effort to strengthen the sport in the state, and the positive outcomes of these initiatives are already visible. He further stated that the Association aims to expand its reach to villages and smaller towns, encouraging more children to take up cycling and enabling them to compete successfully and win medals at the international level.
He also expressed special gratitude to Cycling Federation of India (CFI) President Pankaj Singh, Chairman Onkar Singh and Secretary General Maninder Pal Singh for allotting this prestigious event to Punjab. On this occasion, Jaswinder Singh, President of the District Cycling Association, Fatehgarh Sahib, said that similar sporting events and awareness programmes would continue to be organised in the future to further promote cycling in the district.
In the competitions held during the event, Amanpreet Kaur, daughter of Kuldeep Singh, secured first position in the Women Elite category, while Yashika, daughter of Kamal Kumar, secured second position and Upinderjit Kaur, daughter of Gurinderpal Singh, finished third.
In the Junior Girls category, Gurpreet Kaur, daughter of Jaswant Singh, secured first position, while Ramandeep Kaur, daughter of Harpreet Singh, finished third. In the Sub-Junior/Youth Girls category, Sahajpreet Kaur, daughter of Harpreet Singh, secured first position, Seerat Kaur, daughter of Navjivanjot Singh, secured second position, and Manmeet Kaur, daughter of Harinderpal Singh, finished third.
During the event, the organisers honoured MLA Rupinder Singh Happy, MC Raj Puri, District Sports Officer Mandeep Kaushal, Senior Basketball Coach Rahuldeep Singh, and Stage Secretary Rupreet Kaur. Among those present were S.P.
