Haryana is set to undertake a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls after nearly 24 years. As per the directions of the Election Commission of India, the comprehensive exercise will be conducted from June 15 to July 14, 2026, during which door-to-door verification of voters will be carried out at the booth level. The final electoral roll will be published on September 22, 2026.
Haryana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sh. A. Sreenivas reviewed the preparations for the exercise through a video conference with all Deputy Commissioners-cum-District Election Officers on Wednesday. He directed that Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Supervisors be provided timely training to ensure the successful implementation of the campaign.
During the meeting, the CEO expressed concern over the slow progress of electoral roll mapping in the state. He informed that only 64.26 percent of the mapping work has been completed so far, while districts such as Faridabad, Gurugram, Sonipat, Panipat and Panchkula have achieved less than 60 percent progress. Calling it a matter of concern, he directed the concerned districts to hold meetings with Resident Welfare Association (RWA) representatives to ensure public participation.
He also announced that he would personally visit these districts next week to review the situation. Sh. Sreenivas stated that for the convenience of voters, Enumeration Forms will be made available in Hindi and can be downloaded from the official website from June 5, 2026.
He said that in cases where forms are not returned, BLOs will collect information from neighbours to identify absent, shifted, deceased or duplicate voters. It will be mandatory for BLOs to visit every such household at least three times.
He clarified that if a voter is not present at home, any adult member of the family may sign the Enumeration Form and submit it to the BLO. Even in cases where voters submit forms online, BLOs will conduct physical verification through house visits.
The Chief Electoral Officer further informed that voters whose names do not appear in the draft electoral roll will be listed booth-wise and displayed on notice boards at Panchayat Bhawans, Urban Local Body offices and BDPO offices. The probable reasons for exclusion of names will also be made public.
These lists will additionally be available on the websites of the CEO and the respective District Election Officers. Highlighting the important role of political parties, he directed all District Election Officers to hold meetings with political parties and ensure the appointment of Booth Level Agents (BLAs) at the earliest.
The assistance of volunteers will also be taken during the exercise. The CEO noted that the last Special Intensive Revision in Haryana was conducted in 2002. He revealed that Haryana’s electoral data contains approximately 18 percent logical errors compared to other states, with incorrect names and spelling mistakes being the most common issues.
As of May 21, 2026, Haryana had a total of 20,652,760 registered voters and 20,629 polling stations. Fatehabad district has recorded the highest mapping progress in the state at 87.44 percent.
Sh. Sreenivas informed that special help desks based on the 1950 helpline number will be established at all district headquarters and Assembly constituencies. He directed the district administrations to launch extensive public awareness campaigns through the media and ensure proper video documentation of all activities related to the revision process.
He further stated that, as per the Election Commission’s directions, officers and employees engaged in the SIR exercise will not be transferred without prior approval of the Commission. It will also be ensured that the posts of District Election Officers, Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers do not remain vacant.
Sharing another significant development, he informed that for the first time, the Election Commission has assigned Divisional Commissioners the responsibility of serving as Roll Observers during the Special Intensive Revision campaign. This measure is expected to further strengthen monitoring and transparency in the entire process.
Additional Chief Electoral Officer Smt. Ritu, Additional Chief Electoral Officer Sh. Apoorva, Joint Chief Electoral Officer Sh. Raj Kumar Lohan, and other senior officers of the Chief Electoral Officer’s office were also present during the meeting.
