Member of Parliament (Sangrur), Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, today completed his self-enumeration on the portal and urged the people of Barnala to actively participate in the Census. He also released the publicity material for Census 2027. MP Meet Hayer stated that the first phase of Census 2027 has already begun in Punjab.

He emphasized that accurate data is essential for the government to formulate policies and development plans in line with people’s needs. Therefore, every citizen must ensure that correct information is provided during the process, he added.

Highlighting the digital facility, he said that for the first time, a self-enumeration feature has been introduced, enabling citizens to submit their details from home through the official portal se.census.gov.in.  He further added that the self-enumeration process began on April 30 and will continue until May 14, 2026, while enumerators will conduct door-to-door visits from May 15 to June 13, 2026.

Making an appeal, he urged people to record Punjabi as their mother tongue during the Census to ensure that appropriate policies and schemes are framed in the interest of Punjab and its cultural identity. He remarked that language is an integral part of identity and strengthening it is a collective responsibility.

On this occasion, Halka Incharge Harinder Singh Dhaliwal also completed his self-enumeration and encouraged the residents of Barnala to actively participate in the census process by submitting accurate details.
