The Public Works Minister of Punjab and MLA from Jandiala Guru constituency, Harbhajan Singh ETO, today laid the foundation stone of a modern sports ground to be constructed in village Saidpur at a cost of ₹33.92 lakh. On this occasion he also distributed the sports kits to the village Youth.
On this occasion, he said that the Punjab Government is fully committed to encouraging youth towards sports and developing robust sports infrastructure at the village level. He informed that the sports ground will be equipped with modern facilities such as chain-link fencing, footlights, high mast lights, and borewell hydrant, providing a safe and convenient environment for youth to play.
He further stated that this is a major and unique initiative by the Punjab Government to develop modern sports grounds in rural areas. In the first phase, such sports grounds are being developed in approximately 3,100 villages across the state to ensure that youth in every village get proper space for sports and physical activities.
Sharing more details, he said that under this project launched by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann, the total project cost is around ₹1250 crore, which includes civil infrastructure, MGNREGA works, and sports equipment. He added that this scheme is an important part of the government’s anti-drug campaign “Yudh Nashian Virudh”.
Through sports, youth will be encouraged towards fitness, discipline, and positive thinking, helping them channel their energy in a constructive direction and stay away from drugs. He expressed confidence that such initiatives will strengthen sports culture in Punjab’s villages and lay the foundation of a healthy and strong society.
