BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh termed the special session of the Punjab Assembly convened on May 1 by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann as “a wasteful political circus and a drain on the state exchequer.” He said the Mann government is misusing a constitutional institution like the Assembly not only to manage its crumbling party and shaky MLAs, but also to divert attention from rising public anger caused by its failures, incompetence, broken promises, mafia raj, gangsterism, and extortion networks in Punjab.

“Before calling such a session, Bhagwant Mann must tell the people what his so-called ‘change’ has delivered in four years. Corruption, lawlessness, and internal conflict have pushed his own party into deep distrust,” Chugh said.

He added that if the government is serious, it should stop indulging in theatrics on Labour Day and immediately release Rs. 15,000 crore towards DA and pending dues of employees. Targeting both Congress and AAP, Chugh said the two parties are engaged in a “fixed political match” in Punjab.

“They are friends in Delhi and pretend to be rivals in Punjab, misleading the people. Congress has completely failed as an opposition.” Taking a dig at Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa, Chugh said, “Bajwa ji must stop applauding the Chief Minister’s jokes.

The people have entrusted him with the responsibility to question the government, not to become part of AAP’s script of loot.” Chugh further asserted, “The truth is that AAP was born out of the sins of Congress and rose to power in Delhi with Congress’ support.

It is also well known that both parties contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections together.” Responding to the ‘traitor’ narrative, Chugh said, “Punjab knows who the real betrayers are.

Those who crushed the dreams of Punjab, enabled a mining mafia loot worth Rs. 20,000 crore, and snatched away the future of the youth.” He added, “Even after 50 months, the promised financial support to women has not been delivered, with thousands of crores pending.

Promises of MSP and farm loan waivers remain unfulfilled. Claims of education and healthcare revolution have proven hollow.” Chugh alleged that Punjab today is burdened with Rs. 4.75 lakh crore debt, pushing the state years backward.

He added that AAP is internally collapsing. “Key figures from the India Against Corruption movement have left. The foundation has eroded, leaving behind a fragile structure.” Targeting Arvind Kejriwal’s remarks regarding judicial processes, Chugh said, “India’s democracy does not run on the whims of an accused.

It runs on the Constitution and due process of law. Courts will decide how justice is delivered, not the accused.” He concluded that the people of Punjab are watching closely and will give a decisive response to both AAP and Congress in 2027.
