Haryana Health Minister Arti Singh Rao said that the state government is continuously taking steps to equip government hospitals in the state with state-of-the-art facilities. In this direction, strengthening the public health infrastructure of Haryana, Chief Minister Sh. Nayab Singh Saini has formally approved the commencement of advanced PET (Positron Emission Tomography) and SPECT (Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography) facilities at the Ambala Civil Hospital.

This major initiative of the state government is a milestone towards strengthening the public health sector. After this upgradation, government hospitals will also be able to provide high-level diagnostic services on the lines of super-specialty private hospitals.

The introduction of this nuclear medicine facility will directly benefit critically ill patients admitted to the hospital, especially those suffering from cancer, neurological (brain-related) and heart diseases. Advanced techniques like PET and SPECT provide precise mapping of cellular activities and blood flow within the body, helping doctors detect tumors and other serious abnormalities at a very early stage.

With this facility in place, critically ill patients will be able to receive timely and accurate treatment in emergency situations. Earlier, patients from Ambala and nearby areas had to depend on expensive private diagnostic centres for these specialized scans or travel to major institutions like PGIMER, Chandigarh.

With this decision, this gap will now be completely bridged, and affordable world-class diagnostic facilities will be available under one roof. This will significantly reduce the financial burden on families and help save lives through timely treatment.

This approval is part of the Haryana Government’s broader strategy to modernize district-level hospitals with advanced medical technology. By upgrading regional centres like Ambala Civil Hospital, the state aims to decentralize specialized healthcare services.

This will not only reduce patient load on major referral hospitals but will also significantly improve survival rates and recovery outcomes for patients suffering from serious illnesses in northern Haryana.
