The Career Development and Guidance Center (CDGC) of Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, successfully organized “Lakshay”, an exclusive event for SSB (Services Selection Board) aspirants, and “PRAN”, a premier initiative dedicated to UPSC aspirants, on 21st April, 2026.

The twin initiatives aimed to empower students with the right direction, clarity, and motivation to pursue careers in the Indian Armed Forces and Civil Services. The event served as a dynamic platform for aspirants, offering invaluable insights and first-hand guidance from distinguished experts and seasoned professionals.

For defence aspirants, Lakshay focused on preparing candidates for the rigorous SSB selection process, while PRAN provided strategic guidance for students aspiring to join the Indian Administrative Services (IAS) and other prestigious civil services. The programme was graced by eminent speakers including Col. Ashokan, Senior Group Testing Officer at the Services Selection Board and Founder of Olive Green Institute; Mr. Nikhil Arora, PEC alumnus (Electrical Engineering, 2017) and Firmware Engineer at Pure Storage; Prof. J.D. Sharma, Head, CDGC; Dr. Tejinder Singh Saggu; Dr. Jaskirat Kaur; and Dr. Ankit Yadav. The event commenced with a traditional lamp lighting ceremony, symbolizing the pursuit of knowledge and enlightenment.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. J.D. Sharma emphasized the importance of informed decision-making, urging students to align their career choices with long-term goals and adopt a mature and strategic approach towards their aspirations. Mr. Nikhil Arora shared his journey from PEC to the professional world, highlighting the significance of clarity in decision-making and adaptability in shaping a successful career path.

His interaction resonated strongly with students navigating similar crossroads. Col. Ashokan delivered an inspiring address, describing a career in the Armed Forces as a “way of life” rather than merely a job.

He elaborated on the core Officer Like Qualities (OLQs), the importance of group dynamics, effective communication, and real-time problem-solving skills. Drawing from his vast experience of training over 800 officers, he emphasized the need for discipline, confidence, and a service-oriented mindset dedicated to the nation.

The session further featured experts from STUDY IAS (IAS Today, Chandigarh), including Dr. K.V.S. Khera and Mrs. Tanu Khera, who provided comprehensive insights into UPSC preparation strategies, examination patterns, and the dedication required to succeed in civil services. Adding a psychological perspective to defence preparation, Mr. Manoj Kaushik from Defence Academy Chandigarh, a psychologist associated with the Defence Institute of Psychological Research, shed light on the psychological assessment aspects of SSB and the importance of mental robustness.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, who actively engaged with the speakers through interactive sessions, gaining clarity and motivation to pursue their ambitions. Through Lakshay and PRAN, CDGC reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing talent and guiding students towards meaningful and impactful careers in service of the nation.
