Aam Aadmi Party’s state chief spokesperson, MLA and former Punjab minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal today addressed an impressive gathering under the campaign “Four Glorious Years with Bhagwant Mann” while laying the foundation stone of a 14.80 km-long road, being constructed at a cost of ₹15.88 crore, connecting dozens of villages via Thoba in the border village Singhoke.
He said that in Ajnala constituency, considered the lifeline of development, upgradation and renovation work of around 255 roads spanning nearly 480 km is underway at a cost of ₹194 crore at a rapid pace. In addition, work has begun on constructing a road over the 40 km-long Dhussi bundh from village Ghonewala to Gulgarh along the Indo-Pak international border at a cost of ₹67.59 crore, marking a historic milestone in border area development.
He stated that this is the first such road construction project on the Dhussi bundh of the Ravi river along the international border since Independence. Once completed, it will greatly benefit students, employees, farmers transporting agricultural produce to mandis, and BSF personnel deployed for border security by easing transportation issues for dozens of border villages connected by the 40 km stretch.
Under the “Four Glorious Years with Bhagwant Mann” public outreach campaign, Dhaliwal also addressed public meetings in border villages Sarangdev and Dalla Rajputan, as well as wards No. 1, 4 and 7 of Ajnala town. He said that major roads connecting Ajnala to Amritsar, Chogawan, Fatehgarh Churian and Dera Baba Nanak—which had been awaiting renovation for nearly 15 years during previous Congress, Akali and BJP governments—have now been completed under the Mann government, creating history in just four years.
He further added that by the end of 2025, in the first phase, 19,000 km of link roads have been widened from 10 feet to 18 feet at a cost of ₹2,872 crore. In the second phase, during the current financial year, the government will complete construction of 40,000 km of rural link roads at a cost exceeding ₹4,600 crore.
Dhaliwal clarified that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is taking special interest in basic development works in the constituency and releasing generous grants. With these grants, government schools have been upgraded with modern classrooms, toilets, laboratories and other facilities at a cost of ₹20 crore, eliminating the inferiority complex among students studying in border and backward areas and instilling confidence equal to that of private school students.
