As part of the historic decision taken by the Punjab Government on January 09 this year to establish a Medical College and Hospital at Lehragaga, immediate steps have been taken to provide quality healthcare facilities to the public. After renovation and complete transformation of the Community Health Centre (CHC), which was earlier in a dilapidated condition, OPD and IPD services—along with specialist doctors—will commence from April 15.
This will benefit not only the residents of Lehragaga city but also a large number of nearby villages. Addressing a press conference at CHC Lehragaga, Cabinet Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal stated that these medical services will be provided by Janhit Trust through its unit, Acharya Vidyanand Jain Institute of Medical Sciences and Research.
The Cabinet Minister further informed that due to the tireless efforts of the Punjab Government, the previously closed Baba Hira Singh Bhattal Institute of Engineering and Technology is being revived as a Medical College and Hospital, and doctors will now graduate from this institution.
He emphasized that earlier, due to the lack of emergency medical services, people often had to travel to Sangrur or Patiala for treatment, which sometimes resulted in loss of lives due to delays. This initiative will significantly improve emergency healthcare access in the region.
The Medical College will cater to the Moonak and Khanauri areas as well, and hospitals in these regions will also function under its administration. Nursing classes will commence next year, and a dental college will also be established soon. Additionally, postgraduate courses such as MD and MS will be introduced.
The Minister added that many talented students from the region previously could not pursue medical education due to lack of facilities, but now they will have the opportunity to fulfill their dreams. He also stated that admissions and seat allocation in the Jain community-established Medical College will strictly follow the guidelines and notifications issued by the State Government.
The fee structure for all categories will also be regulated as per government norms. The Medical College will be established with an intake capacity of 100 MBBS seats and a minimum of 440 beds. The objective is to provide quality education to the residents of the state and to position Punjab as a hub for medical education.
On this occasion, Chairman of Janhit Trust Dr. Dharampal Jain, Trust member Dr. Rajneesh Jain, SDM Rakesh Prakash Garg, Municipal Council President Kanta Goyal, Gaurav Goyal along with other dignitaries and a large number of residents were present.
