Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh organized an expert lecture on “Tech Powered India: IoT on Smart City” under the vision of Vikasit Bharat 2047. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Sanjay Batish, Head, Computer Centre, PEC, followed by a practical hands-on session conducted by Sh. Sushil Kumar and Sh. Prabhsimran Singh Bindra, Network Administrator, PEC.

Dr. Batish highlighted the transformative role of the Internet of Things (IoT) in building smart cities and strengthening governance through real-time data, automation, and intelligent systems. He discussed applications of IoT in smart energy, smart water management, intelligent transportation, healthcare, waste management, and environmental monitoring.

The session also covered fundamentals of computer networks, cloud computing, IoT connectivity, and security considerations. The practical session featured a live demonstration using Raspberry Pi 4, showcasing real-time data acquisition and IoT implementation workflows.

Participants gained valuable hands-on exposure to sensor interfacing and smart system design. The session was coordinated by Prof. Ravinderjit Singh Walia, Department of Production and Industrial Engineering, PEC, who facilitated active engagement and participation of students. 

The event reinforced PEC’s commitment to promoting emerging technologies and building technical capacity aligned with the national vision of a developed India by 2047.
