Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh commenced its Industry–Academia Expert Lecture Week (23rd–27th February, 2026) with a series of enriching sessions aimed at bridging academic learning with real-world industry practices. The inaugural lecture on 23rd February, 2026 was delivered by Er. Harpreet Singh Oberoi, an alumnus of the 1993 batch from the Electrical Engineering Department and currently Deputy Chief Engineer (DS), Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, Mohali.

His talk offered a comprehensive understanding of electrical distribution systems, covering the entire value chain from power generation to transmission and distribution. He elaborated on renewable and non-renewable energy sources, highlighting India’s transition from coal-based power to solar plants to reduce carbon dependency.

Various forms of energy—including hydro, thermal, solar, and wind—were discussed, along with fundamental concepts of conductors, current, and power. On 24th February, 2026, the second expert lecture was delivered by Mr. Ashish Jain, Ex-Executive Director, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, and alumnus of the 1987 batch.

His session focused on the pivotal role of engineers in the oil and gas industry. He provided valuable insights into the functioning of the industrial sector, career prospects for engineers, and the evolving dynamics between IT and energy sectors. Emphasizing the need for a structured and ethical engineering mindset, he underscored the theme of powering India’s growth through sustainability and equity.

The lecture series also featured an expert session by Dr. Chesta Sofat from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, titled “Multi-Agent Systems and MCP.” The session offered an engaging overview of emerging trends in Artificial Intelligence, with a focus on Large Language Models (LLMs), AI Agents, Multi-Agent Systems, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).

The talk highlighted how collaborative intelligent agents enhance problem-solving efficiency and decision-making, providing participants with a forward-looking perspective on advanced AI applications.
