With the objective of promoting a positive mindset towards girl children and creating awareness about their dignity and equal rights in society, SK Hospital, Amritsar organized a special programme titled “Lohri for Girls.” The event was held to celebrate the birth of newborn girls and to convey the message that the arrival of a daughter is a moment of pride and celebration.
During the programme, parents of newborn girls born at the hospital were specially invited. Traditional Lohri gifts were presented to them, and the families were felicitated as a mark of respect and encouragement. The main aim of the programme was to spread awareness about gender equality and to reinforce the importance of giving girls equal status, opportunities, and rights in society.
On this occasion, **Improvement Trust Amritsar Chairman and Aam Aadmi Party In-charge for Amritsar North, Karamjit Singh Rintu, graced the event as the Chief Guest. He congratulated the parents and extended Lohri greetings to all present.
Addressing the gathering, Karamjit Singh Rintu said,“Respecting daughters is as important as giving them equal rights and opportunities. Today, girls are excelling in every field — education, sports, administration, science, and politics. It is a matter of pride that in Punjab, the birth of a girl child is now being celebrated with festivals like Lohri, reflecting a positive change in societal thinking.”
He further emphasized that it is the collective responsibility of both the government and society to provide a safe, educated, and empowering environment for girls so that they can become self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress.
Speaking on the occasion, SK Hospital Director Rajwant Kaur stated that the hospital has been organizing “Lohri for Girls” continuously for the past nine years with the aim of encouraging a positive attitude towards daughters in society. She added that the hospital remains committed to supporting social initiatives that promote equality and awareness.
Other speakers also shared their views during the programme, stressing that daughters are no less than anyone and deserve education, respect, and equal rights. The event concluded with collective wishes for the bright and prosperous future of all newborn girls.
