JMC, Peace Initiative Trust and GCOE Celebrate Diwali with Children at Muskan Home

The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), in collaboration with the Peace Initiative Trust and the Government College of Education (GCOE), Canal Road organized a heart warming Diwali celebration with the children of Muskan Home, Channi Rama a home for intellectually disabled children. 

The event aimed to bring joy to the children and promote values of social responsibility, inclusion and community spirit. Dr. Devansh Yadav, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. 

The celebration commenced with a tree plantation drive, during which all participants, along with the children, planted various saplings, symbolizing growth and renewal. This was followed by a Lakshmi Puja, invoking blessings for prosperity, happiness and harmony. 

The rituals filled the atmosphere with devotion and positivity, setting a graceful tone for the day’s festivities. The NSS Unit of GCOE added vibrancy to the occasion through songs, energetic folk dances, and cultural performances that captivated the audience. 

The girl students also showcased their artistic talents through rangoli and mehndi art, spreading color and creativity among the children. The children of Muskan Home too participated with enthusiasm, displaying their knowledge of scriptures and the spirit of togetherness.

In a joyful and safe environment, eco-friendly firecrackers were lit under supervision, adding sparkle to the evening and delighting both guests and children alike. One of the most touching moments of the event was the distribution ceremony, during which Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav and Health Officer Dr. Vinod Sharma personally distributed winter clothes, sweets, gifts and essential items among the children a gesture reflecting compassion and care. 

The event concluded with a community feast, symbolizing unity and equality the true essence of Diwali. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Devansh Yadav appreciated the collective efforts of all stakeholders and participants.

He emphasized that festivals like Diwali should not only be about celebration but also about spreading light and happiness to those who need it most. He also lauded the contributions of the Peace Initiative Trust and students of GCOE for making the event truly memorable through their enthusiastic participation.

Among others present on the occasion were Adv. Purnima Sharma (former Deputy Mayor), former Councillor Anu Bali, Dr. Priyanka Malhotra and officials from the Jammu Municipal Corporation.
