To mark World Mental Health Day, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) organized an open lecture on the theme “Mental Health: Building Resilience and Well-being.” The event aimed to foster awareness, encourage open conversations and promote a supportive environment for emotional wellness among students and faculty.

Registrar of the University Abhishek Sharma delivered the keynote address. He highlighted the growing importance of mental health in academic settings and emphasized the need to view it with the same seriousness as physical health.

He underlined the importance of early identification of symptoms such as prolonged stress, anxiety, mood fluctuations and social withdrawal, noting that early intervention can play a decisive role in recovery and resilience.

He also drew attention towards the Johari Window model, explaining how self-awareness and feedback can help individuals better understand their emotions, behaviour and areas of personal growth. He encouraged students to remain open to constructive feedback, build trust and express their feelings without hesitation.

Such practices, he noted, strengthen emotional intelligence and interpersonal relationships both essential for mental well-being. He further urged faculty members to foster an empathetic and inclusive learning environment, while stressing the need for structured feedback and support systems within the University to make mental health resources accessible to everyone.

Students from various departments participated actively in the session. Heads of departments and senior faculty members were also present, reflecting the University’s commitment to nurturing a culture of care, openness and mental well-being on campus.

The event concluded with an engaging interactive session, where students shared their thoughts on coping mechanisms, resilience and the importance of seeking timely help.
